Joost van Oss creates conceptual art that confronts ownership, emotion, and meaning through challenging, deliberate absence. Taking cues from Bas Jan Ader’s emotional vulnerability, Charles Bukowski’s anti-consumerism, and Giordano Bruno’s martyrdom for his beliefs, van Oss’ work offers no easy answers—only open space and deep thinking. These works resist completion without the viewer’s own participation, inviting solemn reflection over possession.
